Enrolling in warehouse racking installation training normally requires a basic understanding of warehouse safety, the ability to follow technical and written instructions, and sufficient physical fitness to complete practical installation activities safely. Previous installation experience is useful but is not usually essential. Trainees must also be willing to follow site rules, use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and work under the direction of the course instructor.

Course requirements can vary according to the training provider, the type of storage system being installed and the environment in which the work will take place. Before booking, confirm the entry requirements with the provider and tell them about any relevant experience, medical considerations or additional equipment training you may need.

Typical prerequisites include:

• Basic health and safety awareness: You should understand why risk assessments, safe systems of work, exclusion zones, housekeeping and incident reporting are important in a warehouse.
• Ability to understand instructions: Installation work involves interpreting drawings, component information, assembly sequences, load-related details and verbal briefings. You need sufficient spoken and written English, or an agreed support arrangement, to understand safety-critical information.
• Suitable physical capability: Practical exercises may involve standing, walking, bending, reaching, handling tools and assisting with components. The required capability depends on the course design and the work equipment used. You should advise the provider in advance about any condition that could affect safe participation.
• Safe manual-handling awareness: You should be prepared to use correct lifting, carrying and positioning techniques. Training does not remove the need to assess the weight, size, stability and route of any component before moving it.
• Commitment to using PPE: Safety footwear, a hard hat, high-visibility clothing, gloves and eye protection may be required, depending on the training venue and practical activities. The provider should confirm what is supplied and what you must bring.
• Willingness to follow supervision: Trainees must follow the instructor’s method, stop work when asked and avoid making unauthorised changes to the installation sequence or equipment arrangement.

Experience that may help, but is not normally essential

Experience in warehouse operations, construction, engineering, assembly, maintenance or industrial installation can make technical concepts easier to understand.
