Racking safety is a legal obligation

Protect your business from avoidable disruption and revenue loss

Businesses have a responsibility for the safety of their employees

Why Racking Maintenance is Essential?

1. Legal Obligations

Ensuring your racking system meets the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and the Health and Safety at Work Act isn’t just about avoiding fines—it’s about fulfilling your responsibility to create a safe workplace. Regular maintenance and inspections guarantee your equipment remains compliant, avoiding legal repercussions like hefty penalties or reputational damage.

2. Improve Operational Efficiency and Prevent Revenue Loss

A well-maintained racking system minimizes downtime and enhances productivity. Neglecting maintenance can lead to costly disruptions, damaged stock, and reduced equipment lifespan. Routine inspections not only prevent unexpected breakdowns but also keep your operations running smoothly, saving time and resources in the long run. With regular upkeep, you ensure the safety, compliance, and efficiency of your racking system, giving your operations the support they need.

3. Keep Your Team Safe

Damaged or poorly maintained racking poses a serious risk to employees, as structural issues can lead to collapses or falling loads. By regularly inspecting and maintaining your system, you safeguard your team and prevent accidents that could result in injuries, legal complications, serious health issues, or worse. Proactively addressing wear and tear on your racking systems ensures a safer working environment for everyone in your operation.

How Does Our Racking Maintenance Service Work?

Here’s how our Racking Maintenance & Repair service works from start to finish. This process usually starts once you’ve had your annual inspection, which means you’ll have a detailed report from one of our experts evaluating the safety of your current racking systems.

STEP

1

AFTER YOUR INSPECTION, WE’LL FOLLOW UP

Your inspection will detail the current state of your racking system, rating each system component as either Green, Amber, or Red. Anything within your operation rated Amber or Red will require internal or external remedial work for you to continue operating safely. When we provide this report as part of our Racking Inspection service, we will also offer you a quotation to carry out the required remedial work. Once you’ve reviewed this, if you choose to move forward, we will assign a Project Manager to your Racking Maintenance and Repair project.

STEP

2

AGREEING ON THE SCOPE OF WORK

Once you are assigned a Project Manager, it will be their responsibility to ensure all findings are double-checked and that site/operation-specific needs have been accounted for in the initial scope of work. This is particularly important if your racking inspection was not completed by an Able Racking Group inspector. Once we have confirmed these details and the scope of work, we will finalize all costs with you. Typically, we aim to have all racking maintenance and repairs completed within four weeks, but this timeline is sometimes impacted by racking system suppliers and the availability of specific components. Our team will always do our best to clearly communicate all timelines for your service, and we will provide regular updates if anything changes.

STEP

3

STARTING THE PROJECT

The next step is simple: we will issue a site-specific contract, which typically includes:

– Engagement paperwork
– Risk Assessment
– Method statements
– Design Drawings

From here, our team will purchase the relevant parts, components, and systems on your behalf.

STEP

4

THE RACKING MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

On the day of the racking system repairs or maintenance, our team shall visit the site with the required PPE and any licenses (e.g., IPAF) necessary for the project. Then, our operatives will complete the works in line with the method statement provided to you. All installations will be completed according to the full specifications of the design drawings supplied.
