Photographs or marked-up layout information can help identify the affected bay or component. Findings are commonly prioritised according to the risk they present. An immediate danger may require the affected area to be unloaded, isolated or taken out of service. Less serious damage may require prompt repair and continued monitoring, while minor issues may be recorded for planned attention.
Where a component has been damaged, it should not simply be straightened, welded or altered without suitable technical advice. Repairs and replacement parts must be compatible with the system and installed by appropriately competent personnel. If the inspector finds evidence of significant distortion, repeated impact, unexplained movement or uncertainty about the design, a more detailed assessment may be recommended.
